Top tip - WW1 death records

You are searching our WW1 death Records

  • We will search all of our historical WW1 war records and return death records of people that died whislt serving in the war with names that match your search.
  • Do not worry if you do not have a lot of information. You only need a surname to search and get results.
  • This is very old data you are searching, so it is often worth trying a few variations of spelling when it comes to names.
  • You can search a number of different record selections by choosing them from the left hand green panel.

This table shows all names found matching your search in the WW1 death records.

The first column shows the Military Section in which they served, followed by their first and last name and year of death.

To view the transcribed record which will show you further information on each name, click the ‘View’ button.

We also recommend that you look at the original record by clicking on the word 'Image'. Here you will be able to see the original document.

It is important to view either the transcribed or original record as this is where you will find the military number and reference number should you want to order a death certificate or find out more about your ancestors time serving in the war.

These are our death records of soldiers who died whilst serving in World War 1. The records have been indexed so you will see a transcription of the death record and you can also see a copy of the death index page.

You can search by forename and surname. You can broaden your search by searching for the surname only.

Once you have found the death you are looking for you can order a copy of the death certificate from the General Register Office using the volume and page number, the district and the year, which you'll find in our records.
