Start your family tree week
Start your Genes family tree – in a week!
26th December – 1st January is Start Your Family Tree Week
It's Boxing Day and you're maybe having a family reunion. Make the most of seeing your family by asking them lots of questions. We've created some Question Sheets to help you. Perhaps they have old photos, letters or documents that you could look at?
So what have you discovered from speaking to your family? Make sure you add everything to your tree on Genes Reunited. As you add names we’ll let you know if other members have added the same names.
Make sure you add any photos or documents your relatives have shared with you, or records you have viewed on the site, to your Keepsafe. You can organise them in to folders and attach them to the relatives you have already added to your tree.
As you add a name to your tree we will automatically create a profile for that person. You can edit their details, give them a profile photo for the tree and print it all out to show your family.
We have a great collection of historical records on Genes Reunited. We have indexed births, marriages and deaths for England and Wales as well as a full census collection from 1841 through to 1911. Perfect for getting started with your family history.
Did one of your family serve in the Army? Did someone travel overseas? Are you interested in browsing our collection of historical newspapers? Take a look at the vast collection of other records we hold.
Are there some parts of your tree where you’re really stuck? Then visit our thriving community and ask for help. Our volunteer helpers will try and help you break down that brick wall.
Make it your New Year's resolution to carry on researching your family history - imagine what you’ll be able to show your family next year!
