Can someone tell me once you have found someone in the 1911 summary book on Ancestry how you then go about equating that to the actual 1911 census and finding them in the main census pages again?

Also if you look through the image pages of the census how do you then find the electronic file to attach it to your tree?

Many thanks
Sue

Not easily! I've looked at a relative's record for both; there is almost nothing the same, since he is "Mr" on the summary book and full names in the household image - even the parish name is different...

It was only possible to go in both directions by limiting the search to the surname and the county (Warwickshire).

Once you have the household image, do you have a orange button labelled "save" in the top right hand corner?

Yes, but I was hoping to be able to connect to the electronic file to save to each individual in the family

I am glad it isn't just me then being a bit stupid !

Thanks
Sue

Are all the areas in the census showing on Ancestry now?

I know that they added quite a few areas recently but I didn't think that all the areas were covered yet.

I think that may be it, so when I'm searching its only mainly bringing up the same areas.
How do I find out which Counties have been done?
Sue x

by the way, i found quite a few of my family were listed as being born in Lancashire rather than the precise area.

You may need to be vaguer with some of the details you enter in.

Hope your area is covered and you find them soon.

Susie

If you find an image on the 1911 Census through the Summary Books, i.e. that have not been transcribed, then it appears that you cannot attach it to your tree. All you can do is save a copy of the image to your computer, or you can print a copy.

You will have to wait until it has been transcribed before you will be able to attach it to your tree.

Here's an Ancestry transcription of a Summary Book entry:

1911 England Census Summary Books
about Mr McCann
Name: Mr McCann
Number of Males: 2
Number of Females: 5
**Household schedule number: 213
Street Address: 7 Westmoreland Street
**Civil parish: Wigan
Ecclesiastical parish: Wigan St Catharine
**County/Island: Lancashire
Country: England
Registration district: Wigan
Registration District Number: 3
**Sub-registration district: Wigan
Sub-Registration District Number: 3
**ED, institution, or vessel: 7
Neighbors: View others on page
Piece: 1345

NB Ancestry usually (always?) mistranscribe the RD # - for Wigan it should be 458.

The key elements are:

County/Island: Lancashire
Civil parish: Wigan
Sub-registration district: Wigan
ED, institution, or vessel: 7
Household schedule number: 213

To set up Ancestry for an old style search, from Ancestry's main menu bar, select - search - search all records.
The old/new switch is at top right, just under the main menu bar. Select "go to old search"
[I find it better - check the exact matches only box]

Now go the search page of the 1911 English census.
On the right, there's an option to "browse" the census images.
The 1st 4 "key elements" above should get you to the right set of images.
The last, (the sequence #) needs doubling to get 426 here, then look up image 426.
You might be an image or two off. The seq # appears in top right of the page you want.

Essex is not partially searchable unless you consider 4 people is enough to merit that claim. :-)

It a bit pathetic isn't it? Have they nothing better to do with their time?

There is also one which was looking for some one presumably dated 1600 ish on this board which was RRd.
