Hi, Am still trying to find out anything to do with my grt Granddad George Allen. He married Nellie Rees in 1904 & the same year they had a son,Bertram Allen,my granddad. I have managed to verify that George started work in Claybury Asylum in Essex 04/10/1903,aged 25 & resigned 17/11/1910. Nellie also worked there but from 23/06/1899-14/03/1903. As George & Nellie married in Jan.1904, & on the M/C his age is recorded as 26, he must have been born at the end of 1877. They had a daughter in 1907 called Kathleen Maud Allen. Any help gratefully received as this is proving to be a very frustrating brickwall. Regards Coreen

Hi Christine,
Sorry for not replying sooner. I've only just discovered this board and lost my threads - didn't realise you could just click onto them on left hand side of this screen. Thanks for all info - I had some of it but not all & it's been very helpful. Regards Coreen

Hi Woodchopper,
Hope you're still out there-have only just had a look at recent messages after not visiting message boards for a while. To get my info I wrote to the City of London,London Metropolitan Archives,40,Northampton Rd,EC1R 0HB.Their tel.no.is 020 7332 3820 & their email address is: [email protected]. On the info they sent me there is a George William Allen who joined the Claybury staff on 04/10/1899,aged 24 as a 2nd class Attendant. There is no date of leaving and his status as 'single' has been crossed out at some point & replaced with 'married'. His wages increased by £1.00 per Annum from £30.00 on 04/10/1900 to £33.00 on 04/10/1903,which is the last entry I have. Hope this helps & has not arrived too late!
Regards
Coreen
