through the national archives, I have found out that one John Anderson of Hughenden was "transported for life" as he stole a horse.

Do you think that this means sent to Australia??

Depends on the date as to his likely destination

Hi, There are a coouple of possibilities here is one.

Name: John Anderson
Vessel: Susan
Convicted Date: 5 Jan 1835
Voyage Date: 6 Oct 1835
Colony: New South Wales
Piece: HO 11/10
Place of Conviction: Central Criminal Court

The entry in the register just states: "John Anderson 5th January 1835
Life."

Chose this one because Hughenden and Risborough are near to Londaon.

Clare with that link you will notice it takes you into a Queensland Govt web site. It is interesting the web site has information from other states.

If you would like to do some googling you could try
New South Wales Convicts 1835 or
Tasmania Convicts 1835.

Then go through the options which come up. Some of the sites require payment for the info. If you search around there will be plenty to keep you occupied. You could also vary the wording of your search and try searching for the ships. There is a specialized web site for that. Bear with me for a minute and I'll try to find it.

The site I was looking for Ozships does not contain the info I hoped it would. If you would like to drive yourself crazy and have a look see. Just google Ozships.

This site might be worth a look

Not certain where I've dropped you into it. Try going back to the home page and starting from there.

Hi Clare, when people were transported for life they were sent to Botany Bay Australia as far as I know.
