Hi I am trying to trace my grandfather Walter George Anderson born 1883 in Jamaica; died 1973 in Birmingham. He married Patricia Cole in 1948 and had a family which included my mother Josie May Anderson.
They lived on Queslett Road in Birmingham throughout the 1960's early 70's but i heard that my grandfather had a previous realtionship before marriage to my nan with a lady by the name of Laurie? I am unsure if they had any children but if anybody out there has any information then please let me know. As my grandad was Jamaican born and had no siblings to my knowledge then i have reached a dead end. Any info at all would be really great, thanks.

Have come across this site:

The Jamaica Archives and Records Dept
www.jard.gov.jm
[email protected]

Corner of King & Manchester Streets, Spanish Town, St. Catherine, Jamaica

Worth a try perhaps!

And do you have his marriage cert as hopefully his father's name is on it.

Edit...Proposed address in England 99 Tynedale Crescent, Great Barr, Birmingham.

Neville's proposed address is 56 Nothwood St, Kilburn, London ?

Maybe Neville was a child of Walter and Laurie and was taken to visit family in Jamaica but lived in London, with his mum?

Do you know when Walter first came to England?

Hi Misty, thanks so much for your info; was very surprised by the appearance of Neville as i have never heard my mother, aunts or uncle mention him. Maybe he was Walters child from a previous relationship. Jose was my mother and Linda is my aunty. I have no idea when Walter first came to England but thanks to you i now have new info to sink my teeth into.
I may have aunts, uncles and cousins that i had no idea about............ x

Hi Sarah

Your very welcome...I feel it's to much of a coincidence, that Neville was on the same ship with the family, for him not to be connected to you...and of course your mum and auntie would be to young to remember him....if he went to live in London on their return..

Good Luck with your search

Best Wishes

Misty x

Edit...because I'm nosey...would love to know what you find !!

Hi Misty, i dont suppose Neville only made the return journey with my family? i do know that my grandad was married in Jamaica to a lady called Rose and i remember hearing that apparently she died either while she was in childbirth or not long after she had given birth.
Maybe it is possible that Neville was in Jamaica already and made the return journey with my grandad... i do remember my mom telling me that she was taken over to Jamaica when she was a baby and was out there for a while: also Lynda was actually born in Jamaica.
Do you know who made the journey from England to Jamaica?

Though that wouldnt explain why Neville went to London on arrival in England.................... this is confusing me!

Hi Sarah..sorry do not have info on who went to Jamaica...

I guess it is possible Neville only made the return Journey with your grandad...but why go to London, not Birmingham with the other's...

Do you know what year he married Rose? Do you know of any family in London?

You're right, why would Neville go to London and Not Birmingham? Anywy, i was told by my aunt that Grandad was with a woman called Laurie? before he met my nan but thats all i know.
I keep forgetting that my grandad was forty yrs older than my nan so there must have been a lot of history with him before they married!
Still dont know what year he came to England for the first time and sadly my mom passed away back in 93 so i cant really get any information; as she was the eldest child she would know more about him.
I am determined to get to the bottom of this though and i will keep you posted x thanks again x

Do you have the marriage cert for Walter and Patricia? that should give you his father's name....we could then look to see if he also came to England.....witness names on a marriage cert can also be very useful..as often family..

There are a lot of "Andersons" on the passenger list, leaving Jamaica...but without a first name am unable to pinpoint one...
