I doubt very much much if he would interview. It was a struggle for him to remember some things as his health is poor so I cannot be 100% sure of reliability. I was just amazed at what casual conversation could bring up.

Thanks for the Richard Coleman clarification. The names did not seem to add up.

Very interesting Christine! Someone from the Trust ought to interview him on video, seriously.

The Froggitt family member said: "We always thought that Rose and her children died in an air-raid. We didn't realise they were lost in the Bethnal Green disaster. Perhaps this was part of the official cover-up that has been passed down through family histories."

Indeed it must have been.

Just asked one of my elderly patients today in passing if he remembered the BGT Disaster. I was astounded when he said he was less than a 1/4 mile away fire watching in his factory on the Mile End Road. He remembers being hugged by people when they saw him as they were so relieved. He was also friends of the Daily Star reporter who witnessed the disaster. He said they were told not to speak about it but his friend was distressed at not being able to report it.

COLLETT - another reply, from the Froggitt side of the family (Rose Emma Collett born Froggitt). She was very interested to hear about the memorial and Rose's connection with the disaster, and will be in touch with the Trust.

Christine - re DICK COLLETT / Richard Trueman Ford

Births Dec 1908
Coleman Richard Truman F
Bethnal G. 1c 158

Ford may have been his father -- parents not married, father's surname given as middle name (the usual pattern) -- and he subsequently went by that surname.

It seems like the two Colemans in the list aren't actually related.

COLEMAN, MAUDE LOUISA
Wife of Edward George Coleman, of 236 Globe Road.

COLEMAN, RICHARD
of 12 Whitman House, Roman Road. Son of Henry Coleman, and of the late Elizabeth Coleman husband of Lilian Rose Coleman.

So maybe Ford wasn't his father's name, hmm. He just dropped the Coleman for some reason!

ROCHE - Deborah thank you for taking over on them, I won't be able to do any more searches for the next few days.

COLLETT- Anna !!! - reply from tree owner -- the family of a close family member of the Colletts is involved with the Memorial already.

Jessie Sharman ASSER - member of husband's family very interested, will contact the Trust.

ETTRIDGE - wrong person in GR tree.

Above info being sent to Victoria.

ANCESTRY TREES - I see a contact has been made through there -- thanks for mentioning that possible resource, I kept forgetting to.
(I had tried there for Joseph Raulinajtis of the many spellings, to no avail -- the advantage of Ancestry is that it does fuzzy searches.)

UPDATES -- please refer to Victoria's list on page 14 and her list of as-yet unresearched names on that page. I will update the master list on page 1 to reflect the latest work later today.

I think many of us will be busier as of today Monday, so I suggest we can take a bit of a breather. ;)

Just want to query something I have just come across while googling.

QUOTE
The most famous casualty was former British boxing champion Dick Corbett-real name Richard Trueman Ford -who fought under the nom du ring of ''Dick Corbett''.
Corbet-t killed in the Bethnal Green tube station crush while serving as a Civil Defence warden- beat American world featheweight title holder, Petey Sarron in a non-title fight pre-war.
A bomb detonating provoked the panic that cost Dick Corbett his life but miraculosly when they discovered Dick CORBETT'S BODY-HE WAS THE LAST PERSON TO BE FOUND among the crush-he was clutching a baby who was still alive thanks to hero Corbett protecting it as he was swept down the Tube statioon in the ensuing panic.

In your found list you have

Maud Coleman 54
Richard Coleman 34
(known as Bobby or Dickie Corbett)

They seem to be referring to the same person but the names do not quite match.

In reply to question from Victoria, "was LILIAN FRENCH married", sorry Vic, I don't know. No extra info on the list.

I have had an email from ELIZABETH BENDON's 2nd (?) cousin......she was his maternal grandfather's niece. Also a confirmation that ROSINA PAPWORTH was ELIZABETH's cousin, was 6 months pregnant (and abuot to be evacuated to Hertfordshire) and her 4 year old daughter survived and was found sitting on a bench in the park next door (Victoria park known as Barmey Park).

WOW!

James Smith (Rhoda's father/Roche family).

The member Malcolm with James Smith in his tree gives birth place as Belvedere, Kent, so maybe not.

On the other hand there is a member Jo who gives James Smith b 1880 Bethnal Green, I will pm to see if she recognizes the family.
