Probably moved for employment. We have ancestors who were born in Somerset who came to London and worked on the railways.

Hello JoanAlice,
Radyr was a stop on the railway line to the coal pits of South Wales from where coal was being shipped to the docks in Cardiff. With a boom in mining, great numbers of people migrated from all over the country (and Ireland) to the coal mines of South Wales and into Cardiff. If you weren't working in the mines you were probably working for the railways.

Radyr is still there as a station - it's about ten minutes walk from my house - there used to be a big depot there with a row of terraced railway houses which are now much sought after - my son is a train driver and worked out of Radyr for a short while
