Trying to find Baker

I am trying to find my ancestor Benjamin BAKER, who, according to his headstone in Northland New Zealand, was "from" Scarborough. His headstone states he was born in 1803. I know this is not much information to go on, but he may have been involved with the ship building trade in Scarborough, which I believe at that time was an important centre for that industry. The earliest record of him in New Zealand is 1833, where he was in the timber trade, possibly attached to one of the many mills which sprang up in the Hokianga. It is assumed that he apprenticed the trade of shipbuilding as a youth and was possibly born in another centre (Helmsley perhaps).
