Ricochet

Ricochet Report 21 Feb 2009 10:51

Unfortunately, as she could have been any age from 16 to 40+, it will be difficult to find the right person without more details. Also, she could have been born almost anywhere.........

I presume your info is from the birth cert of her child?

There's one Nellie Bell in Southampton in 1911:

http://www.1911census.co.uk/search/tnaform.aspx

BELL NELLIE G 1903 8 Southampton Hampshire

It looks like this is her household:

BELL HEPHZIBAH 1871 40 Southampton Hampshire
BELL CHARLES G 1896 15 Southampton Hampshire
BELL HORACE L 1897 14 Southampton Hampshire
BELL LEONARD 1900 11 Southampton Hampshire
BELL ALICE 1904 7 Southampton Hampshire
BELL ELSIE 1907 4 Southampton Hampshire
BELL CECIL M 1910 6 MONTHS Southampton Hampshire

Marriages Sep 1895
Bell Charles Lee S. Stoneham 2c 135
Butt Hephzibah S. Stoneham 2c 135

Of course it's at least equally likely she was born after 1911, didn't come from Southampton and/or was named Ellen.

For instance:

Births Dec 1911
Bell Ellen (Ramsay) S.Stoneham 2c 202

I just thought, in case your dad got a name like Horace or Leonard or Cecil, it would be kind of beyond coincidence. ;)

Yikes, Sandra, over 6 months to reply, not the greatest. Ricochet has left the building in the meantime ...

I wonder if you can look at the electoral roll for that time to see if there are any Bell family living at that address.

Unfortunately it was common for girls to be "sent away"to have the baby and then return without it

Will be in Southampton library within the next week so will take a look at the electoral register for you for that address.

Had a look at the electoral roll for 1934 21 Wilton Crescent and it shows
Cecil Bell
Heppy Bell
Leonard Bell.

Heppy must be the Hephzibah that Janey found for you on 1911 census

These were the only three occupants of the address
