Can anyone Help?. I cannot trace the death of my G.Grandfathers first wife Sarah Ellen ( nee Walton)
She was born 1877 in Kirlington, Oxford.
Married James Bennett 28.05.1898 Headington Oxford.
She was on his war records but was crossed off (reason Unknown)
1901 cencus boarding with Surrage family @ Friars St. Oxford.
Cannot find any record of her death. Can anyone help?
This has intrigued the family as my grandmother didnot know her father had been married before her mother.

How can you be sure their marriage ended in her death? They may well have divorced??

Do you have the cert for the second marriage? did it state whether he was a Widow or divorced?

When he married my G.Granmother (amelia Brooks) 19.10.1925 It stated he was a Widower on the marriage Certificate.

My Grandmother & siblings were born out of wedlock. James Bennett married Amelia Brooks October 1925 & she died December 1925. The first of their children was born in 1913.

I have tried all sorts of research between 1901 & 1913 but cannot find anything.

It would seem more likely that the first wife's death was nearer to the time of the second marriage....hence the illegitimate offspring..........
