Find Ancestors

I'm trying to trace Violet Eileen Florence Bennett, my mothers biological mother.
My mother was born in 1947 to Violet Eileen Florence Bennett in Kingston, Surrey and named Irene Bennett, within 6 months she was adopted and given a new name.
After she died in June I found her adoption certificate which led me to being able to order her original birth certificate.

All I know about Violet from my mums birth cert is that she was living in Larcom Street, Walworth in 1947 and her occupation was a lift attendant.
Violets mother "V.Bennett" was the informant on the birth cert and she lived at Richmond Park Road in Kingston, Surrey.

There was no father entered on the certificate.
Would be great if I can find my mothers biological family!
Any help or advice would be really appreciated.

Hi had spotted that one and got as far as trying to order the birth certificate, I didn't realise I needed the date of birth to be able to order it though :-(

this could be violet's death....if she was born in december of the previous year she would be registered in the first quarter of the following year.

might be a long shot but the dates fit in

Stephen, when you order through the GRO, where it say's is the GRO reference Known select yes, and then you will not need the DOB

WOW I have spent hours looking through indexes, must be doing it wrong! You guys have given me a few different leads :-)

Just ordered the birth cert for Violet FE BENNETT, I reckon I must have tried ordering it without the BMD index last time!

Anyone know if/how I could search the electoral rolls for 1947?
I have the address for both Violet Florence Eileen Bennett (33 Larcom Street, Walworth) and her mother, V.Bennett at 18 Richmond Park Road, Kingston, Surrey.

there is a marriage in 1952 Q1 between Violet F E Bennett and Ronald J Finch in Southwark ref 5d 1400 so looks like the death of Violet Finch was the correct one :)

I'd say its almost a certainty that if the birth certificate does show Violet as being "Violet Florence Eileen Bennett" then I've found my grandmother :-)
Would you agree?
Next steps would be marraige cert for further family names and then comb the birth indexes for any other children?
I'm off to bed now but will be sure to keep you updated when I recieve the certificate, gonna be a long week!

I'm so confident about this now! The fact that the death record states Violet Florence E almost assures me its the Violet I've been looking for :-)

Have messaged a couple of people who have the above Finches in thier tree's, hopefully I'll be able to confirm the link before the birth cert arrives :-)

Usng the search facility (under GR logo top left hand side of page) there is one entry for Violet Bennett born Islington.

The birth certificate is indeed Violet Florence Eileen Bennett :-)

I've also managed to contact one of her sons, who is indeed a son of Ronald Finch through another member on here! Hopefully I'll be finding more about this side of the family now :-)
