I have been trying to locate the siblings,if any, of Sarah Bennett b1833c chinley.She married James shatwell b1829 chapel en le frith in 1853.I have a full list of her children and all of the Shatwell family going back and forwards several generations
.The confusing issue to me is that when I had access to the Ancestory site , my notes say that ;
On the 1841 census I can only find Sarah Bennett b1834c, Derbyshire ,living in the parish of Bakewell with Maria Bennett b1835 Bakewell and Elizabeth Stubbs b1806.
On the 1851 census;Living in the parish of Bakewell.
Maria Bennett b1835, is now living with Elizabeth Bennett b1808(widow) and a visitor Edwin furniss( Widow) - but Sarah is now not with them.
On the 1851 census at a different address in the civil Parish Bowden Edge is;
Sarah Bennett b1833 Chinley
George Dixon b1850
Mary Dixon b1848
Nancy Dixon b1827
George Shalkrop b1787
James Shalwin b1830
Iv'e identified all the people on this address as being my ancestors.George shalwin is in fact george shallcross, Sarah's uncle. James Shalwin is in fact James Shatwell, Sarah's future husband.All the others are Sarah's cousins.
By the 1861 census, Sarah and James have already married in 1853 and started their own family.
My problem is that Maria Bennett b1835 has now disappeared.
I knew from the marriage certificate that Sarah's father was John Bennett, a farmer.Also I found a marriage on Ancestory between a John Bennett b1790c Derbys to Jane shallcross b1790c Derbys on 4th May 1812.
I also found that George Shallcross had 2 siblings;
John shallcross who married Elizabeth Bennett
Jane shallcross who married John Bennett.
This links all the names on the census except i can't account for Elizabeth Stubbs and maria Bennett.
I originally thought that Sarah and Maria must be sisters but that on different census you do sometimes find the birth place name changes.
That was until today! I had found a marriage for a Maria bennett in !859 and thought that it must be the Maria I was looking for.All the dates were seemingly correct!
The marriage certificate has arrived today and to my horro - it says her fathers name is William Bennett.Unfortunatly the occupation is hard to read but it definatly is not a farmer!
The info it gives is;15th Sept 1859 Maria Bennett, spinster age 25yrs of Bakewll at time of marriage.Father William Bennett.
She married Henry William Bacon age 26yrs Bachelor ,occupation Baker. of Bakewell at time of marriage.Father William Bacon, occupation Labourer.
The witnesses are noted as; Horatio ? and Sarah Ann Bennett.
This now puzzles me.the marriage cert. definately fits Maria bennett b1835 Bakewell.
But as no Sarah Bennett other than what i have noted, fits(except for parish born) it leaves me now wondering what conclusion to come up with! william the father was alive at the marriage in 1859 so elizabeth bennett widow on 1851 census could not have been HIS widow- could she? Can anyone shed any possble light on this please and where do you think Sarah Ann Bennett fits in?......... Help Please !!!!!!

You've put a lot of info in and I've been able to go through it all yet.
few things you should bear in mind with the 1841 census
no relationships are given so you can't assume that Maria and Sarah are sisters, they may be cousins for instance.
ages are rounded by +/- 5 years
draw out your tree, and search on www.familysearch.org
could John and William Bennett be brothers?
