Theres a big age difference, which presupposes John may have been married before, have you found him on the 1861 census ? |

can anyone help me unmuddle this!!!!!!!!!! I have just come back to this and it doesnt add up!!!!!!!! on the 1881 census we have Mary Ann as a widow........but husband John was alive in 1886 at his sons wedding.......have I got the wrong 1881 census - all the names/occupations tie in though ..........the marriage cert of his son does not say deceased.....................did it always say deceased on a marriage cert???????????? |

For what its worth I think Mary is underage and didnt marry or John has been married before and these are not all Mary's children, just to muddy the water! |

Karen, that could well be the parents in 1891.........but what I really dont understand is on 1881 census Mary says widower...... Is it possible this could be a mistake??? We know John was alive in 1886 because of the wedding cert doesnt say father deceased.........any more ideas welcome!!!!!!!! |

It could simply be that the registrar just didn't ask if Father.was dead or alive. |

how do you know John was alive at his sons wedding? even if it doesnt say deceased against the name he may well have been. depends how the question was asked re his father when the marriage was being arranged. |
