My grandfather William Bennett born 1903 in Willesden London was still alive in 1936 but I don't know when he died or where?
Does anybody have any ideas where I can go next.
His fathers hometown was Bretby near Burton on Trent, I know he moved back there before 1936.
Any help gladly received

Deaths from 1915-1983 arent transcribed so its a trawl through the death registers on a yearly and quarterly basis, so no one would want to do without some time scale.

deaths are registered where they happened.
For instance if someone died whilst they on holiday in Cornwall thats where they would be registered even though their home address was say in london.

If you think he may have died in the war, you could check the Commonwealth War Graves site....
Civilian deaths in UK due to war activities are also listed there.

My grandfather was born May 1903, was alive in 1936 (certified by a marriage registration where he was a witness) and dead by 1959 (certified by my fathers declaration on his marriage certificate).

I have scanned all registrations through the intervening 23 years and come up with just two matches.

William Bennett died at 49 years , Wokingham, April May June 1952
William Bennett died at 47 years, St Helens, July August Sept 1950

Would it be a good bet that one of these is him.....or is it not that simple??
