Could someone look up the 1911 census for the daughter of Victor Bennett and Gertrude Sanderson. They married in 1907 and Gertrude died of TB in 1909 and I know that they had a daughter born during those two years. Gertrude came from Kent . Many thanks

Victor Cyril Bennett, 29 of New Zealand, was living with his mother-in-law in 1911 but there is no daughter. She was either living elsewhere, 'adopted' or she died.

They married in Lewisham and he still living in Lewisham after Gertrude died. Providing they stayed there, there are 3 possibilties for their daughter: Florence Elizabeth; Marjorie Swendall; and Pauline Ada T. All born 1907 in Lewisham. Florence and Pauline died in 1907 and Marjorie dies in 1909.

But according to the census he said he had no children dead or alive. But then i suspect he wasn't the happiest person in the world and didn't like to talk about it!

Elliot

Thank you so much for the information, perhaps my relatives thought the mother in law was a daughter or as you say she was adopted.

done a bit of digging on freebmd to see if there were any Bennett girls born in Lewisham district between 1906 and 1909 who then died before 1911 in Lewisham district (assuming that Victor did not move before 1911 census)

the only way to know for sure if any of these are Victor's daughter would be to send for their birth certs from the GRO, you could specify father's forename Victor as a reference checking point so you would only be charged £4 for incorrect ones rather than the full £7

Births Dec 1906   (>99%) Bennett  Pauline Ada T  Lewisham  1d 1174

Thank you Helen,
Its a shame that they do not put the fathers or mothers name in the index, it would save a lot of time but then the GRO would not get so much money. I shall look up Victors mothers name to see if any of the names connect anywhere. Have looked up his mother but her name was Susan so that does not really help.
