Find Ancestors

I have another thread on GR (two Lucys) I have now found that the Lucy Bennett I always thought was my G.Grandmother (Lucy Bennett born Shrewsbury 1867 to John & Martha is not mine.)
My Lucy Bennett was born in Shropshire 1866/68 but I can find no record of her birth, I only know she was called Lucy Bennett on her daughter Annie's birth certificate in 1894. Louisa Bennett on her marriage to William Shotton 1895 when they both gave their address as Bayston Hill Shrewsbury and her fathers name as John Bennett - labourer . She was Lucy Shotton on her death certificate in 1940 .Can anyone help me to find when Lucy Bennett was born and her parents names. =- PLEASE !!!

I can find no Census return for Lucy Ellen Bennett born Wolverhampton 1868 with a father called John Bennett

If she was Louisa Bennett on her marriage cert could this be her ?

This Louisa ticks all the box's but someone told me to discount her because she got married in 1899 and she was a dressmaker. 'my' Lucy was a Domestic Servant and she had had a chid by 1894 and married by 1895

Can anyone tell me why I cannot find Fred McGliston on any census records and he was a witness at Lucy & Williams marriage in 1895

I have spent 6 1/2 hours with 2 very kind helpers from the Local History & Research Library looking for Lucy - no luck it is obvious that her birth was never registered, I have looked at all the local parish records and can find no record of her baptism - so I have decided to call it a day for now - many thanks for all your help.

For info, the 1881 Lousia Bennett is transcribed as "Louisa BERNETT" at Ancestry in 1871. I'd wondered whether she was a child of Mary before marriage or to a different marriage, but it seems not.

What's interesting in the 1871 household though is the long gap between the child aged 13 and the child aged 5 (with parents aged 49), and the order the children are entered in.

I would wonder whether the younger children weren't really grandchildren -- possibly two separate batches, or possibly Jane Louisa actually were daughters and the 3 boys grandchildren. . Possibly born with different surnames.

Mmmm ... there is no Brookhouse in Shropshire.

The image says "ditto" for Salop (Shropshire) in William's entry above, and clearly says Brookhouse after that. (Note also that it states her age as 39.)

There's a Brookhouse in Lancashire, and the censuses also show people with birthplaces of Brookhouse in Yorkshire and Staffordshire.


What other info do you have that she was born in Shropshire?

"Re the name McGliston there is a married Annie McGliston in the 1901 census living with her mother Mary Habberley at 108 Belle Vue Rd. (she was born in Condover 1868,) living next door 110 Belle Vue Rd. is Gertrude Shotton who was the other witness at the wedding!!!"

JaneyCanuck - I am sorry if I have upset you with the other thread I did state at the beginning of this one that I had another thread going. I am VERY NEW to this and this is the first time I have used GR message board.
When I went to the Archives Library yesterday I discovered that there are several houses/farms in Shropshire called Brookhouse so she may have been born there - I will never know. the only info I have that I have that leads me to believe she was born in Shropshire is the fact that she had her daughter here in 1884 and was married here also died here. Thank you for the info above I didn't close down last night until after 10 so could not reply to your comments.
