George Charles Bennett - parents Thomas & Elizabeth. Married twice to Sarah Egan Featherstone and Lucy Collins (nee Minear). George lived in South Australia (Australia) and died at The Pinery (South Australia). I am looking for information on George's parents and also a birth record for George.

hi colleen,
never heard of the pinery. is it in oz or uk?
were they born in oz or uk ?
have you got any births etc?
if from the uk, any idea where from?
any details you may have would be a help.
regards alan.

Thanks Alan. The Pinery is in South Australia (Australia). I am trying to confirm George's parents. I believe they are Thomas Boutflower Bennett and Elizabeth Wiggins, but I'm not sure is this is correct. I believe Thomas and Elizabeth came from England. I can't find the birth record for George Charles Bennett either. I do have information on his 2 marrages (both in South Australia) and his children.

colleen ive been working blind!
there are more bennetts in england than australians in oz.
just some rough idea of dates and places may help.
i think boutflower might also be his mums maiden name.
thanks alan

Hi Colleen,

Any details on Georges' marriage certificates, where born, parents names, ages etc?

How old when he arrived in Australia?

Any further information which might help, thanks

Thanks for your responses. I am still to get a copy of George's marriage certificate/s. South Australian certificates (until 1907) only had the fathers' names. But I will definitely follow-up and get a copy which may have more clues. I don't know when George arrived in South Australia. He married the first time in 1873, his wife died in 1880 and he remarried in 1881.

hi colleen,
slight possibility. 1861 census, bermscombe devon.
thomas 40
elizabeth 33
elizabeth 17
george 8
anne 6
john 4
grace 1
do you know if he had siblings?

Thanks Alan. If Thomas Boutflower & Elizabeth were his parents then I know of three brothers, but I'm not 100% certain these are his parents. Re the 1861 Census record - George would have been about 20 in 1861, and this entry has him as an 8 year old. But I do appreciate your "investigation". I will try and get a copy of his marriage certificate which may give me more clues.

that would have made him about 32 on his 1st marriage
when in those days they seemed to marry when they were
19-20 years old.
