I have quite a lot of information on the Bennett family who lived in Aldgate. The head of the house was William Bennett (born 1853) and his wife was Sarah (born 1855). They had 8 children: Mary, Florence Sarah, Adeline, Jessie, William, Maude, Lucy (or Ivy) and George. The older Bennett daughters were tailoresses and William Jr. was a carpenter. William Bennett Sr. was involved in the construction of Tower Bridge (he was an hydraulic mechanic) and the family lived near the construction site. I know that Lucy (or Ivy) went to live in Canada with her husband and never returned to England. I would love to hear from anyone who has any further information on the Bennett family that they would be willing to share with me. |
