Find my grandfathers family

My grandad George Henry Bolton married my granny Ethel Coulson on the 19th Feb. 1916. I know that my great grandad was George Bolton who died years before but cannot find anything about my grandads side of the family. Can anyone help

do you have the marriage cert - that will tell fathers names

I think the next step would be to find George and son George on the 1901 census. Then you can find out who they married to take the tree back further.

That seems to be the problem at the moment, I havent been able to find out anything, my gran is easier as I am waiting for her birth cert. which will help. Thanks for your help though

Why would my great grandmother in the 1901 census say she was a widow when my great grandfather was alive somewhere? even though I cannot find Joseph Coulson he was alive when gran married
