Hello, I've come to a full stop! My great-great-grandfather was Peter Bott, born 1835 in Hanover; married to Sarah Mott, born in Chatham, Kent. I can't get any info on Peter about his 'German' years before he came to this country - he first appears in the 1871 census. Any info on him or relatives gratefully received - think his mother (or sister?) was Christina.

The marriage certificate merely says 'Henry, deceased' for his father, so not a lot of help as I can't find him! The marriage info you have is the right one, David...

June - this sounds v promising! I'm quite excited - Borken seems to be the right area, Peter WAS a baker....this could be my first lead - thanks so much!!
Adelaide Sophia was one of the 7 children of Sarah and Peter.
