My great grandfather was Francis Brown (c1864) from Southampton. I know from his marriage certificate that his father was Samuel Brown. |

Margaret - thanks I had found them in the 1871 Census and yes, Julia was born in Poole in 1856 same place as Mariah who was born their in 1836. Whether she was born before or after Samuel & Mariah married i don't know as I haven't found their marriage record. I'd rather assumed that they married in Dorset in the early to mid 1850s, had Julia in 1856 and then moved to Southampton before having Susan in 1861. |
