Just read an original christening record which gave abode -parish of Bitton,Devon and place of christening Bideford. Two things spring to mind- 1/ Isn`t Bitton near Bristol? and 2/ That`s a journey of about 100miles, is that likely?

Terry,
Several siblings in my own family travelled back to the place they themselves were Christened to Christen their children (around 60 miles away from where they were living in the 1860's-1880's.)
They were a large family and i estimate this happened around 20 times!
So, it does happen.

Does the family in question have any links with the Parish the Christening took place in?

Yes Terry. I have baptisms for Bristol Diocese and Bitton is covered on them.
