I found an Allen Brown, born 1826, in the north, in the 1841 census, (It turns out that he was not born in Auz, but England, and, the doubt about Allan and Allen showed that the latter was correct) The worst news for my friend is, the idea that they were brothers seems not to be true, as the whole family was listed, with a girl, Esther, born the same year that John Brown was born in Gloucester......... |

If that is the English 1841 census you are looking at, the ages of adults go up in 5 year gaps. eg. 15,20,25,30. and the ages are at least that which is shown. eg. 15yrs = 15-19yrs |
