I'm trying to track down Samuel Brown in the 1861 Census and/or his marriage to Maria(h) Hancock which took place sometime between 1851 and 1861.

In 1841 Samuel Brown was living with his family in High Street, Queen Camel, Someset. In 1851 he was still at home with his parents and they had moved to Hound Street, Sherborne in Dorset.

By 1871 Samuel is married to Maria and they are living in oriental terrace, Holy Rood, Southampton with 6 children including my great grandfather Francis Brown.

They had a daughter Julia who is shown as having been born in Poole, Dorset. Their second child Susan was born in 1860 at 1 Goaters Alley, Holy Rood, Southampton.

Francis was born in 1863 and his birth is recorded at "Back of Walls - Holy Rood".

However, I cannot trace the family in the 1861 census and I would also like to track down Samuel's marriage to Maria Hancock as this would confirm Samuel's father's name and hence eliminate some lingering doubts as to whether I have correctly located Samuel in his younger years.

Thanks for your replies. I have the family in 1871, it is the 1861 entry that I'm really searching for as it is a bit of a missing link in the chain of information.

Even more importantly, tracking down the marriage record of Samuel Brown to Maria Hancock would be extremely useful as this would identify Samuel's father - who I believe to be Daniel Brown but I don't know for certain.

Stephen,

Members post the census information to help with the search. Quite often people do not put all the information in their request so it helps to see the full details - in this case the 1871.
