If i am reading this correctly you are looking a John Robert Brown, is that correct?

Have you any idea in which branch of the services he served, was it the Army?
Or any info of his regimental number, or anything that will help to locate him on the CWGC site, where he will be listed

Isabella,

When you say you found out yesterday his name was John Robert...do you have his birth cert? If so who were his parents, as these were sometimes listed on war dead records, as all next of kin were asked to fill in a card giving names and addresses........sadly a lot did participate for various reasons.

There are lots of J Brown deaths on the war grave site who died 1917...How do you know the date is correct?

Have a look on this site you might be able to identify him better than i

http://www.cwgc.org/debt_of_honour.asp

I have been searching through these records, in WW1 there were only 19 that died with the intials of J R Brown but not all of them John Robert Brown, and not all buried at Ypres some of the records have details of parents etc, so if you know thisinfo you might spot them

Extending the search just using his first intial brings up 328 deaths in 1917 so a bit of a task going through them all especially without more specific information, Have a look at the site, if you want help just contact me
