I am trying to find the marriage of John Brown b1847 in Exeter to Mary b1849 also in Exeter.
I would also like to find the marriage of James brown b1816 in Exeter to Mary b1811 in Exeter
Any help would be appreciated

Do you have Mary's maiden surname from the birth certificate of one of their children (assuming they had any)? Otherwise looking for a marriage between a John Brown and a Mary is needle and haystack stuff!

Also, if you find the families on all possible censuses you might spot a mother-in-law, niece or someone with them - which would help a bit.

Have you found them on any census with children? With a common name like brown you really need to go back very carefully and a child's birth cert will give you Mary's maiden name.

There is only one possible John Brown marriage to a Mary in Exeter between 1865 and 1875 but this John could have married Isabella:
