Ellen Brown - 1911 census

I am trying to find Ellen Brown who was born about 1835 in Shipston On Stour. In the 1901 census she was widowed and living in Leicestershire, I believe All Saints.

I wondered if anybody was able to find her on the 1911 census for me.

I haven't been able to find any children - her husband was Thomas Maling Brown but I think he died by 1901.

Many thanks

Liz

Thanks, that's the Ellen Brown I'm after. I was hoping she would be staying with a son or daughter in 1911 as I haven's been able to find children in previous census years.

Also too many Thomas Brown's to find in the death records. Brown is not easy to research!

Best wishes

Liz

There were over 30 "Ellen Brown's" b. 1832 +/- 2 on the 1911 census.
None with birth place listed as Shipton on Stour or Worcestershire.

However, I did find this possible death registration.. ??

Many thanks - it's possible.

I have the BDM marriage record of her and her husband. His name is mis spelled as Thomas Maley Brown and he is on his own on the page - 6d 654 - no Ellen shown possible because of the misspelling - so I don't know her maiden name.

Any ideas on how to find her name? I don't want to order a marriage certificate as she's not direct line.

Thanks again

Liz

Judging from his age on the census records, this looks like a good possibility for Thomas' death...

Deaths Dec 1892 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Brown Thomas 61 Leicester 7a 14*

I have checked the original entry and half the final number is missing.
I think that it is a '3' but could be '5' .... 143 or 145

Checked the original for Thomas... 654.. the front of the '4' is missing but with little 'tags' so it looks like it should be a '4'

Checked for 'Ellen' m. Q1, 1869, Shipton on Stour, and got 3.
The other 2 the page numbers were 7--.
So this one looks to be Thomas' wife.

England & Wales, FreeBMD Marriage Index: 1837-1915 about Ellen Hudson
Name: Ellen Hudson
Year of Registration: 1869
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
District: Shipston On Stour
County: Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire
Volume: 6d
Page: 651 .... the number is deffinatley '1'

Thanks for all your help.

I'll have to send for a certificate to find her surname. I wish the census records were every five years - people tend to disappear in those ten years!

Tomorrow I'll be looking for Thomas' brother, Stephen Hobbings Brown - I only have his birth and parents so that should be fun!

Best wishes

Liz
