May I seek help from anyone on this subject,

I am trying to find any details of a Margaret BROWN who gave birth to a son George CHALMERS on the 23/1/1783 in Markinch, Fife, Scotland.

The father was listed as Thomas CHALMERS.

I cannot find any record of Margaret or Thomas other than what is stated on the birth certificate of George Chalmers stating these were his parents.

i am aware that there was also a Thomas CHALMERS married to an Agnes BROWN in Markinch around the same era but they also had a son James in June of 1783.
Kindest regards
Thel

Did you find this information on the IGi - Was the record submitted or extracted.. Birth certificates did not start in England till 1837 and they only became necessary from 1875

Birth registration started later in Scotland than in England, not until 1855 but Scottish entries give far more info than English and Welsh ones.

The birth is on the IGI, an extracted record

No marriage coming up on the IGI and no siblings.

there are two other births in Markinch in the late 1700s with mother Margaret brown ........... at the pilot familysearch site ........... batch number means they are taken from parish records

Henry Wise born 23rd october 1797 christened 29th october 1797
parents Henry Wise and Margaret Brown

Agness Wise born 5th march 1789 christened 8th march 1789
parents Henry Wise and Margaret Brown

I wonder whether it might be the same Margaret who had Thomas when she was quite young and then married Henry Wise .......... but there is no marriage for Henry Wise to Margaret (Brown or Chalmers or any other name) in Markinch from 1770 to 1800 at that site

Oh but at the regular family search site there is a submitted record

HENRY WISE
Spouse: MARGARET BROWN
Marriage:
02 MAY 1788 Markinch, Fife, Scotland

maybe that record could be found in old parish records at scotlands people but in the 1700s I don't think it would give their parents' names and I don't know any way you could tell whether it was the same Margaret Brown ................

To Chrissex, Potty & Michael,

Thank you for trying to help me., I have found an Agnes BROWN who married a Thomas CHALMERS, in Markinch around the same era, they had about 5-6 children.

A match came up in another tree showing:
Thomas & Margaret Agnes CHALMERS (nee BROWN), had a son George born in 1774 who died in 1783 & that they had a George born 23/1/1783.

Could Margaret & Agnes be one in the same person, I have been trying to track this down since I put the posting up but I can't find any proof, I contacted the person with the tree & as it is one of his outer branches he can't remember where the information came from.
I have searched since reading your postings but I have not been abnle to get any offical proof of the facts on the other tree.
I have searched the Cemeteries in fife I can find the deaths of Agnes BROWN, but no records of Margaret BROWN.

The births you have found should all be on scotlandspeople. You could try looking at the images to see if there is anymore information - addresses and father's occupations are sometimes given for baptisms in the Parish records.
