I am trying to find George Brown bc1849 Gillingham Kent. I thought he was my Grandfather but my father was adopted and I cant trace Dad's birth. I can trace George's wife's ancesters.

That is where I come unstuck. Cannot trace my fathers birth. He first appears in 1911 census aged 12. Parents George 65 and Fanny nee Cox 62

I have a copy of 1911 census but still cannot trace Brown line before then.

My feeling is that he might have been a grandchild though impossible to say really. There is this birth but no way of knowing if it is him:

Mrs G., I have checked 1911 for ernest Browns born kent. There is the Strood one and "our" Ernest - I can't see any others as yet.
