Looking for information on Mary Jane Brown born c1851, my great grandmother. Census records show that in 1871 she was living in Hurdsfield, Macclesfield, with her husband Francis Millward, and that she was born in Kirkham Lancashire in 1881 she is still living in Hurdsfield with husband and children Samuel, Amelia and Herbert (my grandfather) but that she was born in Galway, Ireland. in 1891 she is now living in Burnley, Lancs with husband and children Amelia, Herbert and Lily, and that she was born in Galway Barracks, Ireland. in 1901 census now living in Kelbrook, Lancs with husband and daughter Maria M. and that she was born in Galway. Mary and Francis Millward were married in the parish of Prestbury, Chester, in 8171 and their marriage certificate shows she was resident in Titherington and her father as being Richard Brown, a weaver. Mary Jane died in 1922. Apart from the confusion as to where she was born all the above details are correct. There is a possibility that Mary's mother was called Maria born c 1825 in Chichester. I have found a record in the 1851 census for a Maria Brown, living in Widnes with children Martha and Mary Jane. Both children are stated as being born in Ireland. 1861 census, Maria living in Kirkham with children Martha, Mary Jane (both born Ireland) and Elizabeth born South Shields. 1871 census Maria living in Tytherington,with daughter Elizabeth born Limpsfield Durham.
