Jacob was born in Monkseaton and moved to Seaton Delaval (Northumberland) when he married his first wife Martha (c1833). They had four children before Martha died. Thomas c1855 John W c1859 Mary c1862 Jane A c1865 He then married Elizabeth Donkin c1838 and they had a further six children Elizabeth 1868 James D 1870 Sarah c1874 Margaret 1876 Jacob 1879 Martha 1883
