Am trying to find descendants of my mother-in-law Eleanor Rose Brown, she was born in Walthamstow, London in 1902. I think her father was Samuel Brown and her mother Rachel Fields. She had two sisters Carrie and Betty.
Would appreciate any help, I'm sure you all know how hard it is to trace the Brown surname.

Hmm, Barbra.

Descendants of your mother-in-law would be your husband and his siblings. ;)

Are you looking for descendants of Eleanor's sisters -- your husband's cousins and their children?

Or ancestors of Eleanor?

This is her birth, I would think:

Births Jun 1902
BROWN Eleanor Rose W. Ham 4a 501

But there just ain't no marriage of a Samuel Brown and a Rachel Fields.

It might be wise to get Eleanor's birth certificate, if she doesn't have it, and see just what it does say as her parents' names!

If it says Samuel Brown and Rachel Fields ... well, it would seem they weren't married.

It seems more likely that you haven't got the right names, so getting that birth certificate is the necessary first step.

First, go to

http://www.freebmd.org.uk

and find the record I reproduced above. Click on the spectacles to see the image, to make sure the numbers have been correctly transcribed.'

Then go to

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

to order the certificate on line. If Eleanor doesn't have a copy already.

Did you check Eleanor's parents names with her before posting?

Facts like these are good things to check *first*, before somebody like me goes spending time researching for you ...

Also, were Carrie and Betty actually Caroline and Elizabeth? Birthdates? Older or younger than Eleanor, at least?

Post what you've got, or what you get from the birth certificate, and we'll try to push on.

Oh, and do specify what you're wanting to know.
