Find Ancestors

Is anyone familiar with the Hownslow area of London? My Great grandfather gave his place of birth as Hownslow on one census and London, Middlesex on another. His date of birth could be 1852 or 53 depending on which information you believe.
The problem is, that I don't know enough about London to find the actual birth place. There is no birth registered in Hownslow for a Thomas Carter in 1852 or 1853.

I found that one, and the names make is a possibility. It's just it would make every age record I have, a year of two out. I know people didn't keep exact records in those days, but I can't help thinking that maybe I have missed something by not knowing London.
I couldn't find a reg. to match the details - I suspect he was born elsewhere, but moved to Hounslow at a very early age.
Just hopeing someone will say 'ah but you've missed this one'

Hi Glitter Baby, yes that's the one - the first transcription I saw of that record, showed the place of birth as Birmingham, so you can imagine how much time I wasted there. Like you I eventually looked at the Image and was back to London.
I can't find him again after that census, he seems to have vanished. His daughter MaryAnn married in about1896 and I have traced that line, but no luck with Thomas. Also, can't find him before his marriage in 1878.

Well done you found the correct family - when Thomas's wife Rosanna was 23 she died of Typhoid fever. The family split up - Edward, my grandfather went to Roseanna's parents and Thomas took Maryann.
just wish I knew where Thomas went after the 91 census. - tom
