Does anyone know anything about a Sarah Carter who gave birth to a daughter Elizabeth in 1861 in Market Bosworth Workhouse, Leicestershire please?

Do you have any further details? Was Sarah married? How old was she when she gave birth? Doo yo have any details on Elisabet?

I'm guessing that all Roslyn has is a birth certificate for the baby.

Does it give her age, or an occupation?

My grx2 grandmother had a baby in a workhouse not too far away from Market Bosworth around 1850, and then got married, and one of her other children married my Carter gr-grmother.

When their daughter married my grandfather, I think it was that common Carter blood that caused him to look down on her family so. Ha. He apparently never knew that *his* gr-grfather died in the workhouse where he spent the last two decades of his life.


So ... anything at all at all about Sarah?

And yet no Elizabeth Carter was registered in Market Bosworth district in 1861.

Was that not the surname she was registered with?

Three Sarah Carters married in Market Bosworth between Mar 1861 and 1871 (1864 and 1865).

Might she have had her baby and married right after, or within a couple of years?

Heavens no, Christine! Just because I had Carter rellies in workhouses in Nrothamptonshire, doesn't mean I can read Roslyn's mind!

Sarah is not to be found in 1861 place of residence Market Bosworth as Carter.

Dear Christine and EvieBeavie, apologies for not getting back to you before now - my computer became fatally infected by a virus and it took a month to get it back all fixed!
Great to read your comments - where to begin?
Originally I only had info on Elizabeth as an adult in the 1891, and 1901 censuses, plus her marriage cert which said her dad was a Joseph Carter,deceased.
Then, when the 1911 census came out it said her birthplace was Market Bosworth for the first time - I'd been looking in Leicester itself. I looked on the IGI and found an Elizabeth Carter born to a Sarah Carter in February 1861 which tied in perfectly with her age. I then tracked her down on the index and only found her by accident!! You're right - there doesn't seem to be a registration but I found her when checking a possible one in Grantham - it was on the same page and I thought Eureka! The birth cert when it came confirmed Sarah Carter only, as the mother and the place of birth Mar Bos workhouse. However just a couple of months later, at the time of the census, they're not there and seem to have vanished. I have trawled through endless possibilities using only their first names for example but can't find them in 1861, 1871 or 1881.
I checked those marriages for Sarah Carter in the censuses, but again couldn't find them together although it's possible they were parted, especially if she was a single mother.
Elizabeth's birth cert doesn't have an occupation for the mum Sarah and doesn't mention infirmary.
Thank you for the info about possible Sarahs but I think the Grantham one must be the Elizabeth I was checking when I came across the 'real' one so is not mine.
By the way I never could find a possible Joseph, though he could be a red herring! His occupation was said to be basket-maker - a traveller perhaps? Probably not named Carter really.
