Neville Report 31 Mar 2009 12:55

I am trying to find more information on Charles Carter, born 1838 In Burton Pidsea, Yorkshire, but lived in Ellerby, Yorkshire.
He was a wheelwright. He married Sarah Hesk.
They had a son Charles Johnson Carter, born 1 Jan 1873 in Ellerby. He came to Australia at age 15. He is my grandfather.

There were 3 more brothers I know of, George W 1865, John H 1869, and Leonard 1870.

I am after who his parents were, and whether there were other children. Also birth and death dates.

Any help would be appreciated.

There is not a registration for Charles Carter 1838 in Yorks, so ordering a cert would be a bit hit & miss, how about Charles & Sarahs marriage certificate, this would give both fathers hopefully, witnesses may be family too.

Many thanks for all help. Will go through it all and sort it out hopefully. I have got some of the data, but did not have any link between it all.

I will order Marriage certificate also, I did not find a reference to this while searching.

Sorry for delay getting back to forum. Gillian sent a PM to remind me.

We have found my wifes younger brother, who she did not know existed, so that has been taking attention from other research.

We are picking him up from airport today.

Thanks again and will get back with results

Polly Poppet has the correct family showing known brothers. It also shows Sarah Hesk is from Preston, Yorkshire.

I also have found links to Gillian's info, but have not quite sorted that out.

Now waiting on Charles and Sarah's marriage certificate to continue on.

many thanks to you all

Gillian, Where did you get this marriage info from?

Charles Carter baptised 18/8/1833 Burton Pidsea son of Thomas Carter and Susannah Hodge who married Burton Pidsea 6/6/1826

I wish to buy the marriage certificate to get Thomas's parents data.
I cant get info earlier than 1837.

It took a while for me to sort out this side of the family. Reason I could not find any UK info was they all (except George who stayed in Hull as a policeman) emigrated here to Australia. Some stayed in Victoria, the rest went to NSW.

Thanks again for prior help

cheers

My info re marriage was taken from the IGI (International Genealogical Index) on the Mormon website (www.familysearch.org) It is free to search and covers baptisms and marriages in approx half of England and Scotland - BUT you will nor find a certificate as the national registration of Births deaths and marriages did not come in until 1837 in England and 1855 in Scotland. The IGI info was taken directly from Parish records which do not give parents names form marriages
