Find Ancestors

I am trying to find any descendants of John Robert Carter (Jack),
he was my granddads brother and according to my dad he emigrated to Canada. John was born in abt 1888 in Worksop Nottinghamshire, the family moved to Chesterfield in Derbyshire where he is listed on the 1901 amd 1911 census. I believe he got married in 1910 but am only just in the process of sending for his marriage certifcate so am not sure of his wifes name could possibly be Edith. I have found him on the passenger list of the Duchess of Bedford travelling from Liverpool to Canda but he appears to be alone.I think he had children who served in second world War as I remember my mother mentioning some Canadian cousins visiting in uniform at my Grandmas home.
Johns Parents were George and Mary Carter and some of his siblings include Elizabeth,Tom, harold(my Grandad) Florence Elsie. I would be very Grateful for any info about John and his family.

Ithink it probably is but I havent recieved the marriage certificate yet. Looking at the info you sent me Johns wife could be Edith or Alice. Athough I am now wondering if it more likely to be Alice as I know my dad had some cousins by the name of Gregory so Edith could have been his cousin. A double wedding maybe!

Yes thats them all right. I was wondering the same about Edith being his wife I will know when the marriage certificate arrives. But now Im not sure as Christine found the name of Alice Burtoft as well, so I am now wondering if Edith is his cousin as my dad had cousins of that name.
What is a bit of a mystery is why he travelled to Canada alone, unless he went ahead and the family followed later.

Edith Maud Gregory born Sept 1879 Chesterfield,she is in Whittington 1881/1891.

Edith Maud Gregory dad henry,she died 21/10/1955 in ottowa and was married to John Robert Carter he died 26/8/1958.
They had son John Robert reg J/A/S 1911 in Chesterfield 7b 1496 mum nee Gregory he was born 11/7/1911 he died 1/4/1976.
The owner of the tree is a descendant of John Robert Carter.

Thanks very much for the info. I have Maud as being born in Whittington on 1911 cencus. I used to subcribe to Ancestry but have recently stopped as I found the fact that they had started to charge extra for so many things a bit much. Is there anyway you could get a message to the person whos tree this is for me I would be very grateful.
