Hi all,
I'm a bit stuck with Mary Clark my GGMother. Census records give her birth year as c.1879, St Johns (Westminster area), London. Her marriage certificate (June 1899), gives her fathers name as Richard Clark. From searching under Richard Clark, I think his birth year was 1844. The MC records Richard's occupation as an Engineer/Stoker.
Mary married Frederick James Jackson in 1899, Camberwell, London. Frederick worked for the London Omnibus Company. At the time of marriage, and later census records, Mary had two middle names, Ann and Caroline. To recap thats Mary Ann Caroline Clark.
I'm trying to find Mary's mother's maiden name, census records show she was a Mary Ann ???. I cannot find any birth records for a Mary Ann Caroline Clark (nor variants), but many Mary Clarks born in this area of London in those years.
Can anyone offer any advice, on how to pin Mary down, I could keep ordering Mary Clark Birth Certificates in the vain hope that the GRO might offer a discount for bulk purchase. The above is not likely to happen, any advice would be very welcome.
Many regards, Martin

there are 4 marriages that would be the right kind of time and place for richard and mary ann. IF one came back with engineer or similar on it for richard that may help cut the odds of her mothers maiden name down
or you could cross ref all the mary ann names on the census for her place of birth going on the one mary ann you think is her mother on the census

Brenda, Vivienne,
Thank you so much for the information, it's given me new leads to follow up on a family line I'd nearly given up on. I know where to look now. Thank you both again.
Many regards, Martin.
