I've hit a brick wall with finding my Grandfather's parents. Richard Horatio Clark was born on 11/3/1920 in Barnet and married Edna May on 18/8/1945. His siblings are below, but don't know their DOB's:
Miriam, twins Alexandra & Ethel Doris, Reginald, Ronald, Cyril, Bernard. All born in Barnet. Thanks!

Thanks Susan. I did come across this information too, but in the Birth Registers Apr-May-June. He was born in March. I looked into it further with Wood possibly being his Mother and found:

Harry Clark & Ethel Wood married in 1918 Apr-May-Jun in Huddersfield Vol 9a Page 536.

Without knowing Richards' siblings birth dates, I'm unable to double check the Wood link.

I think you will need to purchase a birth cert to find out the parents names . First child born West Ham but no marriage stands out in that area for that time

Vanessa - its perfectly possible for a March birth to be registered in the April/May/June quarter. I think the rules say it must be registered within 6 weeks after the birth, so yours fits

Not sure from replies above whether the mother is Wood or Woods - you really do need a birth cert to get the names of the parents. I suggest you get that of one of the twins, when you will be certain that you have the correct person.

Where have you got Huddersfield from?
All children born in the London area doubt if parents married in Huddersfield

This could be the marriage but its only a guess birth cert for one of them is needed

Jax, I got Huddersfield from the Marriage Records June quarter in 1918. I'm not from the UK and don't have any knowledge where the districts/countys are - makes it difficult I know!

I am in the UK... Huddersfield is probably a couple of hundred miles away so not very likely unless you know otherwise.
Do you have his marriage cert?
Looks like they started out in London and moved to Barnet which is on the outskirts in the Hertfordshire area

Thanks for the search tip Jax! I've been using the Search Records on this site. No, I don't have his marriage certificate.

The records on here are not at all easy to follow, its best to use freebmd.
If you had Richard and Edna's marriage cert at least you would know what his fathers name was and it could narrow it down a bit.
If you have not ordered certs before order them from here

Is "W.Ham" short for Hammersmith, London?

Peterkinz

Peterkinz Report 7 Oct 2010 03:37

West Ham is in East London, Hammersmith is West London - but a lot closer than Huddersfield!!!!!!!
