Clark is a variation of medieval profession name. Clark’s would have been the scribe, secretary or else a member of a religious order, a cleric. Clerks, came to be so called because for a great period of time, they were the only people able to read and write within this land. The most famous family of Clark’s must be the shoemaking family of street in Somerset. Founded by Cyrus (1801-66) and James (1811-1906) in 1833. Originally these Quaker brothers set up a small factory to tan leather, produce rugs and also slippers. James (Jim) Clark was a quite famous Grand-Prix motor racing driver during the 1960’s. Hosiah Clark, who died in 1898, gave the world the Clark cell battery. |
