Trying to find Clark

I am trying to find some information regarding my Great Grandfather John Clark's birthplace and Scottish relatives. He was born somewhere in Scotland in 1839. He married Mary Anne Green in London in 1869 and later moved to Southampton where he died in 1928 aged 89. He was a Mechanical Engineer and I believe he worked for South Western Railways. He had four sons, John George Degee, Archibald, Charles and Duncan. He also had two daughters Betty Meatyard and Margaret Jean Duncan Clark. He was also a Championship Bowler, a Knight of the Southampton Bowling Club, and founder of the Southampton County Bowling Club. He was also involved in the formation of the Bannister Park Bowling Club. I believe he may also have been a member of Kirkcaldy Bowling Club.
