My great great grandfather was Edward Fewson or Fewston Clark b. 1856 Whitby d. 1921 Hull. Married 1878 Hull to Ellen Knapp 1862-1951. Son of George b. 1820 Tickton and Mary b. 1819 Beverley. Children of Edward & Ellen - George Thomas b. 13/5/1880 Hull, Mary Elizabeth (my great grandmother) b. 28/7/1882 Hull d. February 1932 Hull (m. 2/4/1904 St Philip, Hull to Christopher Pettman b.25/12/1884 - disappeared May 1927), Edward Fewson b. 6/10/1884 Hull, Ellen b. 14/5/1887 Hull (m. 22/2/1908 St Silas, Hull to James J Murray b. 1884 Hull), Florence b. 16/7/1889 Hull, Arthur b. 10/2/1892 Hull, (John) Charles b. 4/10/1893 Hull and Henry b. 1898 Hull. Edward spent most of his life in Hull (apart from brief periods of his childhood in Beverley and Whitby) as a labourer, so why would his granddaughter Harriet (who was brought up by her grandparents) suggest he was a lay preacher who ran a shop in Whitby, and that Ellen was the first person in Whitby to have a gas cooker? Any information on ancestors/descendants, or the Whitby connection (other than his birth) - my father was led to believe Edward was buried in Whitby, but he died in Hull and it seems a long way to go for a funeral when the rest of the family lived in the Hull area. |
