Nigel emigrated on the £10 scheme about 1958 at the age of 20 to Cooma NSW Australia. Dear Eileen,

I did not mean to bombard you.

Perhaps others would like to say whether they think SHENOAH an unusual name, especially in Australia.

Also, amI right in thinking I cannot search Death registers for Australians who died in recent times?

Eileen

Eileen Report 4 Aug 2008 23:14

I would say Shenoah is unusual..first name or surname?
Do you need an electoral look up?
Don't know about the death registers..a lady called Valerie ,often on Aus questions, would know I am sure..Eileen

Hi John

Rules seem to vary from state to state, this site might be useful to you.

http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/familyHistory.htm

And this one has links to other states:

http://www.coraweb.com.au/bdmaut.htm

This is from the NSW site:

Because the Registry collects sensitive and private data about you and your family, and with the rise in Identity Fraud within Australia, the Registry has stringent entitlement and identification policies in place. For these reasons, certificates are categorised as 'restricted' or 'unrestricted'.

Restricted records are normally only available to the person named on the certificate and identification is always required.

Unrestricted records are available to anyone. Identification is not required. We refer to these unrestricted records as Family History Records (Certificates).

Family History Certificates are available to anyone if the event occurred:

Births 100 years ago or more
Deaths 30 years ago or more
Marriages 50 years ago or more

To assist customers in undertaking family history research, the Registry provides free access to unrestricted birth, death and marriage family history indexes. This published information on this website is referred to as Online Historical Indexes.

Hope it helps
Regards
LfW

Dear Eileen,

Nigel G Clarke

Yes please I would be very grateful for some electoral look-up. Even if the result is negative could you let me know which area/state you tried and which years.

Shenoah is his daughter's first name. I do not know whether she used the surname Clarke.
