I'm trying to find the birth record of my great grandmother Alice Edith Clarke born 1878 in Pinhoe, Devon but cannot find the correct information to be able to order a copy - any help much appreciated. I know her parents were John Henry Clarke and Ann Broom.

I am also trying to confirm stories of her childhood in Canada but don't know how to go about finding how she got there. I cannot trace Alice or her parents in either the 1891 or 1901 census. Again any help much appreciated.

Thanks everyone for all the help.

Sorry I wasn't able to reply before but have been using a mobile dongle whilst on holiday in Cornwall and have learnt the further away from a 'big' town the harder it is to get good reception. It was like being back on dial up! LOL

I will be reviewing everybodies help and hope to be able to order Alice's birth certificate soon.

And in reply to one query her name on her marriage certificate is Alice Edith Clarke, Father is John Henry Clarke

Thanks again
Anita

Thanks everyone! have spent a useful afternoon getting copies of the various census's

Now just need to sort out the family stories of Canada, her illigitimate son, who my father thought was her youngest brother and the Sarjeant Major from Woolwich Barracks.

So off to see my Dad, his cousin and his brother.
