trying to find info on clc electrical engineer lived in manchester at age 50+ born c1854 supposed to have been in india prior to this time- hav located him on 1911, 1901 and 1881 census only

Can you clarify the censuses on which you have located him.....please?

You say in your - amended - original posting that you have him in 1881.........yet further down you say he 'appears' in 1891.

Which is correct?

It's ONLY in 1911 - when he also 'loses' a few years - that he decides he was born in Glasgow..........his birthplace in the preceding censuses is recorded as Manchester.
