I'm trying to locate my great grandfather, Arthur Clarke. I was led to believe he was born in 1903 in Portsmouth. I have searched and searched but to no avail. The family has connections with Leicester. His father was called Joseph (according to Arthur's marriage certificate)
Arthur married in Leicester in 1930.
Oral family history states his mother's maiden name as McCarthy.
I haven't been able to confirm this.
Please help!!!!!!!

I'm not 100% that the info I was given to start the research was accurate.
I have since checked & his occupation was Caretaker, of what I don't know.
I did see the above family and thought it could be them but I don't understand the Portsmouth link. Arthur put on his passport that he was born in Portsmouth.
