Trying to find Clarke

This is a complete shot in the dark, but I am trying to find any information as to the father of William Clarke Hassell who was born in 1899 in Islington. William’s mother is Lucy Hassell my great grandmother but the birth certificate does not name a father. William was born well before my grandmother met my grandfather and gave birth to my other great uncles and aunts. Like I said this is a complete shot in the dark and the only reason I am using the Clarke message board is on the off chance that William’s middle name was a clue to who his father was. Even though very unlikely if anyone does know of a relative who possibly had an illegitimate son around this time please let me know. The reason we have no information on William is that he only came to light a few years ago, the family never spoke of him and he died around the same time as his half brothers and sisters were born. We know he doesn’t have any children as he, like so many, lied about his age and enlisted to fight in World War I and died at the age of 16 in the trenches.
