My ggrandfather Henry Joseph was b 1851in Cork Ireland. in 1871 he was in the 7th Dragoon Guards and later became a Ships Engine Smith. In 1873 he married Jemima Freeborn. On his marriage certificate his father was John Clarke occupation Smith. I have decendants of his but no ancestors.
Does anyone have any information on John, the rest of his family or ancestors?
Thank you
Barbara

Hi Barbara

I hae found this site to be not that user friendly for Irish ancestors. The Dublin Census is now on line and the rest of the republic of Ireland is coming this year so when it does you may find him on there www.nationalarchives.ie
However on this site you can get links to other sites with land registery records etc. Also try http://www.familysearch.org this is an Amercian site I think recommended to by a lady who answered a looking for email I had on www.ancestry.com which also has lots of Irish tracing links. Cork is a very large county so it would be worth mentioning the parish or district in your search email and you might have a little more luck. Good luck with your search.

Hi Tracie
Thank you very much for the information I will certainly try the web sites you sugested. I do not know if Cork is the district or the county, which isnt very helpful. On the census it just says Cork Ireland. Thank you again.
