Getting from Rangoon to NZ

1910 my rellie was discharged in Rangoon from the Irish Royal Rifles.
On his disharge papers he gave NZ as his next address and duly arrived here the same year.
Can someone tell me whether he would have gone back to UK first and picked up a ship or sailed to NZ direct from India.
It's a puzzle!
Many thanks for any help given.

If you provide a name we might be able to check immigration.

Regards Linda :)

Hi Linda,
That would be great.
His name was Thomas Collins, his wife Rebecca and there were 6 children.
Much appreciated,
Judith

Without really knowing anything, my guess at the most likely route would be via Sydney.

Hi there, can't find anything I'm afraid that is definitive, ie can't find a thomas and rebecca together with children. Could you give some more details eg thomas and rebecca's approx age in 1910? The only two that I can find direct to new zealand, in 1908/9 thomas is single and a farmer! Cheers Linda :)

Hi Linda,
Sorry, had to dig out paperwork.
Thomas was 36 yrs,10mths at the time of discharge in Rangoon in 1910.
Rebecca was 34yrs.
Have to go off and cook the genealogy widower's tea now so won't be back on until tomorrow.
Many thanks indeed,
Judith

So, if any of these are yours I would say that Rebecca and the children came home first, and then they all emigrated to NZ via Aus.

Hope this helps! Regards Linda :)
