Trying to find Collins

Am trying to shed some light on a bit of a mystery. My great grandfather Thomas Collins was born in Ripon in 1880 and he had a brother William (1879) and a sister Minnie (1884). However, in the 1891 census Minnie's surname is Scaife which was the name of their grandfather William with whom they lived. Their mother Sarah Jane Collins (nee Scaife) was a widow by this time. By the 1901 census Minnie was called Collins. Now I know this could just have been a census hiccup but there is further mystery. Both Minnie and Thomas's marriage certificate show their father as William when I believe their father's name to be Michael Collins. Does anybody know more about this family and could maybe help solve the mystery. |
